This is not about finger tips or getting your nails done. This blog titled Healthy Tips is a gentle rant about whatever flows from my fingers (typing). If you find yourself reading this blog, you are sure to have comments and ideas of your own. Because most who think about health have explored health in their lifetime from gym memberships to the local juice bar, these healthy tips may be of interest. Some of the interest was motivated by movie stars and magazines…it doesn’t matter what motivated you then.
Being the best you, confident and natural.
Perhaps for some, you use this as a checklist…check check check with some yet to explore.
What are Healthy Tips?
Healthy tips is to inspire you at your core with an apple of wisdom.
“An apple a day keeps the doctor away” first evolved from the earliest recorded version of 1866 (Wales)
“Eat an apple on going to bed, and you’ll keep the doctor from earning his bread.”
In my research, the apple was any round fruit so it could be a pear or a plum.
Let’s begin with the tip of the iceberg, my top five areas of a healthy life (as least an awesome beginning.) The tips that are visible and more obvious.
Movement
The body was built to move with elbows and knees, and muscles to be flexing you see. Take a walk, by golly a stroll, with a friend and have a good talk.
Movement can include housecleaning, food preparation (chop chop), gardening, painting, walking the dog, shoveling snow, walking to the grocery store, or even a dance party. There are gyms, yoga studios, and Pilates too. You may enjoy boxing or martial arts. For some, their profession is very physical. At the end of the day, it is about being active and to move everything from lymph to blood circulation.
Whether you want to loose weight or be more toned/fit, moving to the beat of the drums is bound to shake up some things.
There can be a downside to working out too much…from injuries (marathons and elite athletes) to making you crave carbohydrates. On the treadmill…what are you running from? A lion? This is the fight or flight idea. The chemistry changes in the body and the adrenaline runs so that your body desires a quick energy boost.
Healthy tips:
- Slow and steady wins the race
- Isometrics is a winner
- Stretching
- Sit up straight and Straighten UP
- Do something fun
Eating
Nourishment is part of life – our human existence, while some may eat smaller meals and no snacks, others are eating three meals a day. Some are eating every other day, the Paleo way, intermittent fasting, and perhaps a vegetarian. Choices. Ideally you learn about what works for you and monitor how your body and health are doing on that way of eating. Best to monitor your energy, your sleeping, your skin, your digestive system/elimination ongoing.
There is no one way or diet for everyone. In fact, someone who is embarking on better health may have to do something different than what they would do for maintenance. You see what works and what doesn’t work. Patience is a virtue whereas expectations may bite you from behind.
Healthy tips:
- Chew your food
- No Snacks (Movement)
- Do not overeat
- In joy the meal time in quiet
- Eat two to three hours before bedtime
Sleep and Relaxing
How comfortable is your sleeping accommodations? Sleeping and relaxing are two different things because relaxing includes one eye open on life. Relaxing includes chilling by the pool, watching the sunrise, taking a holiday (then a holiday from the holiday), brushing the dog, tasting your new recipe, and much more. Sleeping is a whole other kettle of fish. Sleep is a reset. It has a few sides from dream work to cleansing. On a Star Trek episode, the crew were going mad after a few days with no sleep. Relaxing matters while sleep matters more.
Healthy tips:
- Schedule time to do relaxing things
- Go to bed before 11 am
- Clear your bedroom of all electronics
- Darken the room so you cannot see your hand in front of your face (a mask works for some)
- Before bed journal your day, process what happened and close the book on the day…sleep matters and tomorrow is a new day

Social Time
Some really like social time while others can only take so much socializing. This is unique to each of us and limits are a thing. I knew a hermit who could not take crowds, and they liked their own company. Some will crave people around them – weekend parties. Some are talkers while others are good listeners. In any case, we only have so much energy so the hermit would get exhausted while the social bunny would be energized. Some are so energetic they drain the energy from others. Social time is meant to be available to us in the dose that is comfortable. For all to participate is at certain times like celebrations (weddings). Short and sweet like a catch up at the coffee machine, and much more.
Healthy tips:
- Honour your social limits with self love
- Coming together build a community
- Join a potluck, a coming and going event
- Take a stroll and say hello to strangers
- Pick up the phone and say hello
Creativity
May be just what the doctor ordered. At a minimum, there is a little creativity in everyone. Okay there is a lot in some – those artist types from musician to designers. Creativity encompasses many things – cooking/baking, gardens, interior decorating, dance choreographer, flower arranging, building things, fashion, writing, singing, playing music, planning parties, inventions, and much much more. One could be creative with much.
Healthy tips:
- Embark on a little creativity…pencil and paper, a new plant, an art/music lesson, learn in the kitchen
- Get creative with a planning a relaxing day…a spa, visit a new place/store/park, see an art gallery
- Taste a new food
- How can you be creative with your meal space?
- How can you change up your sleeping space?
Ever thought of walking on the other side of the road, writing with the other hand, taking a different route home, what is beyond the stars, who are we really?
Life is what you make it and choice is your power. At times, a little support goes a long way…some insights, teachings and inspiration.

Cheryl Millett
Champion for your better health…
Before the age of 20, it never dawned on me that what I chose to put in my mouth would have such a dramatic effect on my well being.
On my path of discovery, I learned that our eating choices directly affected how much energy we have first thing in the morning or that it would build our immune system strength during flu season. Part of it was coming to understand how gentle nutritional cleansing directly helped overcome my health challenges. People keep telling me how beautiful my skin is or how I look younger.
As my studies continued, it became obvious that there is an intrinsic connection between the mind, body, and spirit which directly affects our health and happiness. Omegas are another critical piece of the wellness puzzle. The Auum omegas alone turned on some switches in my brain in just one day.
I have developed a deep appreciation for the wonderful miracle workers our bodies are in the recovery process. Our bodies have natural intelligence. I am passionate to share the connection between nutrition and wellness in my practice and my presentations.
