brain traumaPerhaps you heard the story about Grant Virgin. In 2012, he was hit by a car while walking, and large doses of omegas were implicated on CNN in Grant’s full recovery. Yes, brain trauma was saved with omegas.

His mother JJ Virgin knew a thing or two or several things about health, but the seriousness of it first called for patience and prayer, and not to cave into the doctors telling them to let him go.

Watch this short CNN news coverage of the traumatic story. (5 minutes)

In looking for more information, I appreciated the protocol for Grant’s full recovery including the amount of omegas given to Grant. The dose given to Grant was 20 gms of fish oil for 6 months post-accident. He had already been taking 5 gms daily.  JJ Virgin did more for the brain trauma saved with omegas, she included other nutrients, fitness, neurofeedback, stem cells, and more.

I share this because brain trauma saved with omegas is only an important piece of the full recovery. Pulling out all cards, Grant has made a full recovery. Brain and omegas

Let’s circle back to talking about brain trauma saved with omegas. Omega 6s and Omega 3s are essential fatty acids (EFAs) that are not produced by our bodies. The majority of our brain is made up of fat (do your research). These EFAs are a critical nutrient for our nerves (brain) and our nerves are key to our health, such as, they are responsible for moving every muscle in our body. Even the movement of food through your digestive tract relies on the nervous system for peristaltic movement. No movement, no shit! 🙂

Taking 5 gms before the accident may have been a help as well. Grant was young and supported.

Incidences of Brain Trauma

According to the Northern Brain Injury Association, brain injuries may not be recognized fully. Here is a piece from the front page of their website http://nbia.ca/brain-injury-statistics/.

Of all types of injury around the world, injuries to the brain are among the most likely to result in death or permanent disability. In fact, brain injury is currently a leading cause of death and disability worldwide.

The annual incidence of acquired brain injury in Canada is 44 times more common than spinal cord injuries, 30 times more common than breast cancer, and 400 times more common than HIV/AIDS. In fact, brain injury occurs at a rate greater than that of all known cases of Multiple Sclerosis, Spinal Cord Injury, HIV/AIDS and Breast Cancer per year combined.statistics-brain-injury

Feeding Our Brain After Trauma

Trauma comes in all kinds of packages, from minor to major. No matter the degree, the brain, and body may be experiencing inflammation to deal with the injury or trauma. Inflammation is a natural process in our body, just like swelling happens when there is a knee injury. What matters next will depend on how much Omega 3s are in the body. Omega 3s lower inflammation. This is necessary to fully recover. Continued inflammation will bring upon chronic pain, and perhaps limit the movement of the knee.

Omega 6 and Omega 3 are homologs. They need each other. Omega 6 is needed for inflammation or speeding up cell division whereas Omega 3 is needed to bring down inflammation and slow down cell division.

Auum-Omega-3-Sublingual-DOmegas Are Important Nutrients

When presenting on Omegas, I make sure I mention that fats are macronutrients like proteins and carbohydrates. Vitamins and minerals are micronutrients and are also essential to our optimum health and healing.

To paint a bigger picture, Omegas are required for every cell membrane including the membranes of the thousands of organelles inside each and every cell. The mitochondria are your energy-producing organelles that have membranes too.

Everywhere a membrane! Membranes have four key functions: keep things out, keep things in, let things in, let things out; communicate with other cells; communicate with their environment; and store energy for new cells.

Sources of Omegas

Omega-6 and Omega-3 or Essential Fatty Acids (EFAs) are found in plenty of foods, from fish to plants, to mammalian. Mammalian omegas are found in breast milk but also discovered to be a rich source in the blubber of the harp seal (the mid-1990s, Memorial University) and certain whales. This oil has been consumed by the Inuit and other cultures around the world, for longer than any fish oil supplement. The harp seal hunt is sustainable and regulated. The Inuit and others, see hunting as a way of life using the whole animal. Even Greenpeace admits they were wrong and has seen apologized to the Inuit people.  Note: Omega 7 and Omega 9 are not essential.

Sublingual Absorption Most Efficient

Additionally, the seal oil or mammalian omegas are just like us, therefore the Omega 3s absorb more efficiently under the tongue (unlike fish and plants). If held under the tongue, the sublingual glands draw in the oil, to enter the bloodstream within minutes. Once in the bloodstream, the Omega 3s would immediately enter the brain.

In trauma, the digestive system would not be as effective. Another example is when people are stressed or sad, they don’t feel like eating. And you surely are not sending energy to your digestive system when being chased by a lion. I would like to see how someone would eat while being chased by a lion. Just kidding!

Absorption is said to be 80-85 % sublingually if Auum’s liquid formulation is held under the tongue for 60 seconds or more. By holding the oil under you tongue for 60 seconds or more, the nutrients are directly, efficiently and almost immediately absorbed into our bloodstream. Liquid means increases our absorption by about 100% (click here for other differences).

Omega Source Differences

Processing makes a difference in the ability to absorb sublingually. Auum Omega 3 products are the only ones, that I know of (outside visiting the Inuit), that are not refined bleached and deodorized (RBD), or molecularly distilled. So I guess we can call them unrefined while using low heat to process. Auum Omega 3 products are a whole raw food and it is because of this that I started learning a lot about mammalian omegas. Truthfully, it may have been a different story had I not had a result in the first day. I share it this way “it felt like my brain turned on and I felt taller.”

“It felt like my brain turned on and I felt taller.” — Cheryl Millett

After the ability to absorb the mammalian oil under the tongue, three other important differences include the following:

  • Ideal ratio – mammalian omega 3 products provide the omegas in a natural ratio of 1:1 quickly helping to balance serum levels.
  • DPA (Docosapentaenoic Acid) – a form of Omega 3 unique to mammals missing in plants and fish. EPA, DHA, and DPA are in the perfect balance and ratio that our body requires in order to function optimally.
  • Naturally Free of toxins and heavy metals.

Beyond this, the differences are unique to the Auum Omega 3 products.

Hope and Brain Health

My result wasn’t because I was diagnosed with brain trauma, although, I am sure like most kids we have had our fair share of falls.

Brain trauma saved with omegas is reaching for that one star that lights up the world for those with brain trauma or brain injury. I hope this article is an inspiration for those that continue with brain trauma and its side effects. This is whether or not they take medications.

At any time in one’s life, supporting good brain function with effective omegas is optimum for our health. Just remember ‘brain trauma saved with omegas’. Remember safety first to avoid brain injuries and trauma, but we all know that brain traumas continue to occur, and in different ways other than accidents, such as participating in sports.

Your health, my passion.

Champion for your better health…

Before the age of 20, it never dawned on me that what I chose to put in my mouth would have such a dramatic effect on my wellbeing.
On my path of discovery, I learned that our eating choices directly affected how much energy we have first thing in the morning or that it would build our immune system strength during flu season. Part of it was coming to understand how gentle nutritional cleansing directly helped overcome my health challenges. People keep telling me how beautiful my skin is or how I look younger.
As my studies continued, it became obvious that there is an intrinsic connection between the mind, body and spirit which directly affects our health and happiness. Also learned that Omegas are another critical piece of the wellness puzzle. I became convinced when the Auum omegas alone turned on some switches in my brain in just one day.
I have developed a deep appreciation for the wonderful miracle workers our bodies are in the recovery process.  Our bodies have a natural intelligence.  I am passionate to share the connection between nutrition and wellness in my practice and my presentations.
