Dunluce Castle

Welcome to my Magical Ireland Hiking Holiday blog!

The plan is to update this blog daily with some details of the day along with a few pictures for the Forest Hill Walk Club, friends, family and for others wishing to follow along. Perhaps this is too adventurous since I am the organizer of this trip but with Eimear Flanagan of ‘Away A Wee Walk’ managing the details, the hike and trip guide, I get to play, hike, be adventurous and take many pictures. Pay attention to people, culture and whatever else steps onto my path.

Did I say we would be staying at an ancient castle? Have you thought about why Ireland has ancient castle walls? Did you ever hear of dolmans? How about sheela-na-gigs? What of the mounds that are older than the pyramids? Does Guinness takes better in Ireland? What is a snug? Are you getting the picture?

For some answers, check out my latest blog ‘Elvis Presley was Irish?’

Stay tuned, the action begins June 11 leaving Toronto for Dublin airport then on to our first stop, the city ancient city of Drogheda. Around the island we go!

Day 1  June 12, 2018

Arriving at Dublin airport…from Toronto. An easy time with the airport. It was very kind to all of us. As we board and make our way to our first stop, you know you are not in Canada anymore. Everyone is driving on the wrong side of the road. With needing a stretch, I planned a walk around the city centre as Drogheda has a lot of history and oldness about it.
